If Not For You

If Not For You is a deeply personal song I wrote for my wife about the person I was before she came into my life, and the person she helped me discover underneath it all.

It is about spending years trying to become what the world expected, hiding parts of yourself and slowly losing sight of who you actually are. Then someone comes along who does not try to fix or change you. They simply see you, sit beside your shadows and give you enough safety to find your own way back.

The song also wrestles with faith. I may not know whether there is a God listening somewhere above us, but I know that the love, acceptance and understanding I found in my wife changed my life in ways that feel almost divine.

If Not For You is my thank-you to the woman who never made me someone different. She simply helped me realise that the person I was searching for had been inside me all along.
