Part of the Pack

Part of the Pack is a deeply personal song I wrote one night when my dog was very ill and I genuinely feared I might lose him.

Thankfully, he pulled through, but that night made me think about every dog I have ever loved and the peculiar kind of grief that comes with losing an animal who was never really “just a pet”.

Dogs become part of our routines, our homes and our families. They sit beside us through some of the most important years of our lives, hear things we tell nobody else, and somehow manage to offer companionship without ever asking us to explain ourselves.

I also realised how rarely songs talk about grieving a dog, even though losing one can leave an enormous hole behind.

Part of the Pack is not something I consider perfect, and it was never meant to be a masterpiece. It was simply something I needed to write that night to make sense of what I was feeling.

A song for every dog we have loved, every pawprint that stayed with us, and every four-legged member of the family who will always remain part of the pack.
