Thank You, Lily.
Thank You, Lily. is a deeply personal tribute to my nan, Lily (1923–2006), whose life was forever changed by the Second World War.
Forced to leave her home island of Guernsey, she was deported to the civilian internment camp at Biberach in Germany. There, amid uncertainty, separation and the loss of the life she had known, she somehow found the strength to keep going, to love, to build a family and eventually create a future from circumstances she never chose.
The song is not only about what Lily endured, but about everything that came after. The children, grandchildren and generations whose lives exist because she survived those years and refused to let hardship extinguish her spirit.
Thank You, Lily. is a song of remembrance, gratitude and family legacy. A thank-you to one remarkable woman whose courage still lives on in all of us who came after her.
