The Day the Music Survived
The Day the Music Survived is my tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, whose lives were tragically cut short on 3 February 1959.
For me, Buddy Holly was never simply another name in rock ’n’ roll history. He was one of the artists who inspired my own love of music, songwriting and the magic of picking up an instrument and creating something.
That day became known as “the day the music died”, but I have always seen it differently. The music did not die. It survived in the records, the artists they inspired, the bands that followed, and every generation that has discovered those songs since.
The Day the Music Survived is a celebration of three young artists who left far too soon, but whose influence never really left at all.
The plane went down. The music kept flying.
